Joël serves asian and mediterranean influenced French cuisine. Quality is truly excellent and thus the High Zagat Rating backed up by a Mobil Travel Guide 5 Star Award Winning restaurant, and winner of Top 40 Restaurants in the USA 2005 (Gayot).
First off, aside from the food, which is fabulous, we like the fact that the restaurant is "casual chic." Readers of this guide know that's more to our liking. Even though food is a business, and a serious one, we don't see the need to dress to the nine's to appreciate or celebrate the achievements of fine chefs. If they feel we must, we might suggest they are need of therapy.
In any event, Joël manges to be quite stylish and upscale, and doesn't force us to put on a jacket or tie, or an evening gown just to show our appreciate for the seriousness of what they do there. That's as it should be, and wish more serious restauranteurs would get with the program.
